My Process

I am a hand builder, no wheel-thrown components here.  My sculptures start out as either slabs of clay rolled out with my slab roller, or as coils that are then built up layer by layer.  I’m a stickler for details and will spend HOURS making sure everything is the way I want it to be.  Pieces are single fired and then finished using a variety of different cold finish applications.

Thank you for joining me on my journey!

My latest works in progress include two very different themes – a wide variety of animals in my series aptly named “Animals of War” and steampunk.  The Animals of War sculptures include the ever-loved dogs of war; an ambulance dog (German Shepherd); a trench dog (Boston Terrier); a pigeon carrier (Airedale Terrier); and Smoky, a Yorkshire Terrier, who was the first recognized therapy dog.  The steampunk line is challenging and a TON of fun because I’m essentially creating my own world that these anthropomorphic animals fit in.

Please check back often, as I have about 50 or more ideas in the works, ranging from elephants, to giant rats, to warthogs, horses…not to mention a mythological multi-headed canine…
